Tub and Tile Installation
San Diego Tile and Bathrooms offers tub and tile installation. We install alcove tubs and freestanding tubs. A “tub surround” is the term we use for a tub with tiled walls. Also, a “tub splash” is a term we use to describe a tub surround where the tile is at a minimal height.
Alcove Tubs
Obviously, an alcove tub is a tub that is installed in an alcove. The combination of tub and tile looks fantastic. There are countless designs available for this type of installation.
Larger tiles are the most popular in 2022, however, the smaller “subway” look is holding its own. The recessed shampoo boxes can add a modern look. Contrarily, the corner shelves can add a traditional look. A decorative stripe can be an interesting addition to the design.
Freestanding tub and tile installation
The freestanding tub is not mounted to anything. The freestanding tub usually has a freestanding fill valve. Significantly, the drain and supply lines need to be run under the floor, which adds to the difficulty of the install.
Tub materials
Tubs are usually made out of either cast iron, plastic, or coated metal. The coated metal tub is made out of metal, then coated with a ceramic glaze. The ceramic glass makes it nearly impossible to stain or scratch. Bootzcast is a popular brand for coated metal bathtubs. They have a standard size, and a “soaker” that is slightly deeper. The plastic tubs can be made with a fiberglass mix or an acrylic mix. The plastic tubs are most likely the easiest to install. Also, these tubs will never rust. Lastly, we have the cast iron tub. Cast iron tubs are extremely durable. However, this tub is very heavy, which makes it much more difficult to install.
